Dentures replace missing teeth and can support chewing, speech and appearance. Complete dentures replace all teeth in an arch; partial dentures replace some teeth.
Getting used to a new denture takes practice. Follow the dentist’s advice on eating and wear, and arrange adjustment if sore spots develop. Persistent pain is not something you must simply tolerate.
Clean dentures using the method recommended for their material. Clean your gums, tongue and remaining teeth as well. Dentures are usually removed at night unless your clinician gives a specific reason otherwise. Avoid home repair kits or reshaping a denture yourself.
The mouth changes over time, so a denture may eventually require adjustment, relining or replacement. Regular review remains important even when no natural teeth remain. Ask about bridges or implant-supported options if appropriate, but remember that a removable denture can be a valid individual treatment choice.
