Implant-retained removable dentures

A hybrid solution where dentures are securely snapped onto implants for better stability.

Implant-retained removable dentures, often called 'overdentures,' offer a more stable alternative to traditional loose dentures. In this system, a few implants are placed in the jaw, and the denture is designed to 'snap' onto these posts. This prevents the denture from shifting or falling out while talking or eating, which is a common complaint for those using standard dentures and messy adhesives.

One of the main benefits of this system is that it significantly improves the patient's ability to chew. Because the denture is anchored by implants, it does not rely solely on the gums for support. This can lead to better nutrition and increased confidence in social situations. While the denture is held firmly in place during the day, the patient can still remove it at night for cleaning and gum rest.

Maintenance involves cleaning both the denture itself and the implant attachments in the mouth. It is important to keep the metal components clean to prevent irritation of the gums. Patients in India should be aware that good hygiene is essential to prevent infections like peri-implantitis. Regular visits to a dentist are required to check the fit of the denture and the health of the underlying implants.
